How We Handicap

  1. New members who have a recent Golf Australia (GA) handicap will be given this handicap for their first game.
  1. If a new member or visitor or social member presents at least three (3) recent score cards before their first game with the Club and the Club Captain or their nominee is satisfied with the bona fides of the cards, and at their discretion, may include the cards as a means of determining a handicap.
  1. Where a new member does not have a recent GA handicap; or has not had a GA handicap; or cannot produce at least three (3) acceptable recent score cards they will be required to play their first round with the Club without a handicap. In this first round with the Club, the new member will have their stroke scores recorded for each hole with the proviso that once the number of strokes on a hole reaches a triple bogey (3 over par) the member is to pick up and have recorded, for that hole, the triple bogey as their score. At the end of the round the Club Captain, or their nominee, will determine a Club handicap for the new member(s).  New members will, however, be eligible to win the special holes for this round.
  1. Visitors or social members without a handicap may play in a stableford event. The Club Captain or their nominee may, at their discretion, determine a nominal handicap for the visitor or social member. However, they will not be eligible to win a monetary prize ie 1st to 4th but may win nearest the pins, long drives or drive and pitch.
  1. Handicaps will be capped at 45 for males and females.

Adjustment of Handicaps

Stableford Events
 Scores greater than 36.

Players with a handicap less than or equal to 20 (ie. 0 – 20) will lose ⅓ of a shot for each point scored over 36. The reduction is to be rounded to the nearest whole number.

eg.1   Bill is on a handicap of 12 and scores 37 points. Technically Bill would lose ⅓ of a shot which when rounded to the nearest whole number gives 0. Bill’s handicap does not change.

eg.2  Rose is on a handicap of 20 and  scores 38 points. Technically Rose would lose ⅔ of a shot which when rounded to the nearest whole number gives 1. Rose would lose 1 shot off her handicap.

Players with a handicap greater than 20 (ie. 21 – 45) will lose ½ shot for each point scored over 36. The reduction is to be rounded up to the next whole number.

eg.1  Rod is on a handicap of 24 and scores 37 points.  Technically Rod would lose ½ of a shot which when rounded up gives 1.  Rod would lose 1 shot off his handicap.

eg.2  Donna is on a handicap of 38 and scores 40 points.  Technically Donna would lose 2 shots which does not need rounding up and so she loses 2 shots off her handicap.

Scores 30 – 36.

Players who score 30, 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36 (ie.30 – 36) points will have no alteration made to their handicaps.

Scores less than 30.

All players scoring 29 or less (ie. 0 – 29) will receive 1 shot back on their handicaps regardless of their handicap.

Other.

In addition to the above, a player winning a stableford event will have their handicap reduced by1 shot.

4BBB and Ambrose Events

In these events handicap adjustment is restricted to winning teams.  Each player in a winning team will have their handicap reduced by1 shot regardless of their handicap.
